Spotify has launched an in-app messaging feature to make the platform more social, allowing users to chat directly with friends they’ve shared playlists, jams, or blends with. Conversations require approval, and users can also start chats through links shared on other apps.
Messages can include reactions via emojis and are encrypted at rest and in transit, though not end-to-end. Spotify will monitor chats for rule violations, and users can report messages.
The feature, initially rolling out in select Latin and South American markets, will expand soon to the U.S., Canada, Brazil, the EU, the U.K., Australia and New Zealand.
