London-based advertising heavyweight, WPP, is merging two of its prominent creative agencies, VMLY&R and Wunderman Thompson, aiming to streamline its offerings to marketers
The resultant agency, named VML, will employ over 30,000 individuals across 64 markets. This merger builds on WPP's previous integrations from 2018, blending traditional creative agencies with digital-centric counterparts.
Under the leadership of Jon Cook, the global CEO, and Mel Edwards, the global president, VML will focus on brand experience, customer experience, and commerce. Emphasising the move towards simplification, Chief Executive Mark Read highlighted the industry's shift beyond traditional advertising, expanding into realms like e-commerce, data consulting, and technology.
