Google is launching an anti-misinformation campaign in five EU countries, including Belgium, France, Germany, Italy, and Poland, ahead of the European Parliament elections. The initiative, organized by Google's Jigsaw unit, targets online misinformation that could influence voters.
The campaign employs "prebunking" methods to educate viewers on spotting manipulative content. It will feature animated ads on platforms like TikTok and YouTube, complemented by interactive quizzes to evaluate viewers' understanding of misinformation.
This effort responds to increasing concerns about misleading information affecting democracy, like the pro-Russian propaganda in the EU. The campaign, translated into all EU languages, will run for a month with potential extensions, and its effectiveness will be assessed and reported in summer 2024.
